Greetings Eastminster!

We're in a busy season. Arriving from Egypt on Friday, it was exciting to see so many volunteers and community residents that Saturday at Eastminster for Fall Festival. Consecration Sunday is November 13, a day of anticipation as we see how God is leading covenant partners in their financial stewardship. IMAGINE is in full swing, with input from committees, staff, and covenant partners leading to our 2020 ministry map. The Pastor Search Committee is receiving CV's from qualified candidates for the Senior Pastor position. We have a great slate of new elders and deacons who will begin their service in January, and I and the staff are very excited to work with them. Ministry is good here, and we have much to anticipate!

To prepare our hearts to receive God's guidance for 2017, a few of us have been reading Paul's letter to the Philippians daily since the beginning of October. What a blessing this has been. Preparing for 2017 in this way has been such a blessing. Practically each day promises, encouragements, lessons, small phrases, and material I normally let slip emerge like bubbles floating to the surface of a pond. Our reading group has been reminded daily that our citizenship is not of this world, that the Lord can use our sufferings to achieve great things in surprising ways, that unity and peace are blessings we must work toward, and that God has designed us for excellence.

I invite each of you to join in the preparation for 2017 and all God has for us by using the month of November to read Philippians daily. See what bubbles emerge for you as you soak in the goodness of Christ, our Savior.

Consecration Sunday Is Coming

Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view the money Christians give to their church merely as a way to pay its bills. Rather, such congregations see financial contributions as a way to help people grow spiritually in their relationship with God by supporting their church's mission and ministry with a percentage of their incomes.

Our congregation's finance committee has selected the New Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our stewardship education emphasis this year.

New Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philosophy of the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive. Instead of treating people like members of a social club who should pay dues, we will treat people like followers of Jesus Christ who want to give unselfishly as an act of discipleship. New Consecration Sunday encourages people toward proportionate and systematic giving in response to the question, "What percentage of my income is God calling me to give?"

During morning worship on Consecration Sunday, we are asking our attendees and members to make their financial commitments to our church's missionary, benevolent, and educational ministries in this community and around the world.

Every attendee and member who completes an Estimate of Giving Card does so voluntarily by attending morning worship on Consecration Sunday. We urge people to attend who feel strongly opposed to completing a card. The procedure is done in such a way that no one feels personal embarrassment if he or she chooses not to fill out a card.

We will do no home solicitation to ask people to complete cards. During morning worship our guest leader will conduct a brief period of instruction and inspiration, climaxed by members making their commitments as a confidential act of worship.

We will encourage participation in Consecration Sunday events through the Consecration Sunday team and Session. Since we will make no follow-up visits to ask people to complete their cards, we will make every effort to inform, inspire, and commit everyone to attend Consecration Sunday worship.

Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic participation in Consecration Sunday events.

Clerk of Session,

Diane Brock

Bridge Players!

Ladies, we are still looking for bridge players!  All levels are welcome, even if you haven't played for a while and would like to get back into the game. We would like to have a group of 8 players who are willing to commit their time once a month.  (Of course, we would be thrilled with 12 or more.)  We play on the 3rd Monday of each month, at 10am.  We have been playing at our homes but are considering playing at the church, let us know if this appeals to you more.  We are taking a slight break while searching for more players and will resume on Monday, January 16, 2017.  Nancy Speiser

October Session Meeting Highlights

Session acknowledged with sadness the death of Member Susan Breitbach on September 20, 2016.

Session approved the baptism of Clara Jane Hudson, daughter of Rev. Blake and Katie Hudson, on October 16, 2016, at the 11:15am service.

Session approved a dedication of the benches by the walkway to the sanctuary in memory of Barbara Lowery on November 6, 2016, during the 11:15am service.

Session approved a one-time exception to the Wedding Policy which prohibits non-members from making a reservation more than six months in advance. The exception will allow Faith Williams, a KSU student in Valerie Mote's KSU small group, to reserve the sanctuary for her wedding in September 2017.

Session appointed Eddie Capparucci, Steve Hartt, and Matt Ryder to serve on a task force along with the staff and Deacon Board to consider the ongoing support and management of Wednesday Night Dinners.

The next Stated Session meeting will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at 7pm in Room 204.

Respectfully submitted,
