Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of
various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces
steadfastness. -James 1:2-3
It's
Thanksgiving time. That time of year when we cultivate our spirit
of gratitude. How we have been blessed this year! Pause to count
and recognize your blessings, and let the spirit of gratitude draw
you nearer to the One Who Blesses. But can we even give thanks for
trials?
James says to
count it all joy when we meet trials. Why? Because the trial only
means God sees you worthy of testing and purifying. I saw a young
lady with a T-Shirt the other day: "Without pressure there
would be no diamonds." But it sure is hard to give thanks in
the middle of a struggle, isn't it?
There are a
few things to remember about trials that make them easier to
endure. Trials are temporary; they begin and then they end. They do
not go on forever. Trials are necessary for growth. Trials are
mentally distressing, and it can be hard to think straight in the
middle of them. Trials are diverse-they emerge from surprising
corners, and are not always what you expect. Trials refine us,
deepening and proving our faith, producing greater trust in God and
burning away any confidences or attachments other than Him. Trials
are for our benefit.
Count your
blessings. Give thanks for the easy and joyful things. Then give
thanks for your trials and struggles. Jesus is often closer in
them.
Yours in
Christ,
Tim

looking to start a prayer shawl ministry. The idea is to get

and pray over them. Finished prayer shawls will be distributed to
members in long term care, in the hospital, and going through
treatments. If you are interested in joining in this ministry,
please contact Beth Hartt, beth.hartt@gmail.com,

Operation
Christmas Child
Shoebox collection
for Operation Christmas Child is underway! Prayerfully pack these
shoeboxes to share the love of Jesus with children around the
world. Our goal for this year is 350 shoeboxes - we can do it!
Brochures with complete instructions are located in the Alcove near
the Sanctuary or in the CLC lobby. Help yourself to some of
the pre-made boxes at the tables, or use your own shoebox or a
reusable plastic storage box. Visit www.epres.org/shoebox for
more information and important dates. For great tips on packing a
shoe box, click here. You may drop off
filled boxes in Fellowship Hall until November 16th.
Want to help
behind the scenes of OCC? Volunteer at the OCC Processing Site!
Join us for a night of working, praying and fellowship as we help
process shoeboxes before they get shipped out all over the world.
There are two dates to choose from - Monday, December 1st from 6 -
10 p.m., and Tuesday, December 2nd from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Space is
limited, so sign up now at www.epres.org/signups.
