When Sherlock
Holmes turns to his friend and says: "elementary, my dear
Watson", you know that the master detective is about to reveal
a basic, fundamental or underlying clue to the mystery they have
been attempting to solve. Where others have missed it, Sherlock
has been able to discover what is really happening underneath all
of the confusion, false clues, suspicious suspects and red
herrings. Because he can see the basics, he knows the answer to the
question.
This ability
to look at the essential elements of a case is part of what makes
him such a good detective but also the reason why he has captivated
audiences for longer than a century. We all want to know what's
really going on in the world. We want to know, beneath the
confusion of superficial layers and conflicting messages, what life
really means and what our own life is really all about. As
Christians, these questions extend to what we believe. What can we
rely on when it comes to faith? What are the essentials of what we
believe?
This January,
Dr. McConnell will be preaching on the elements of our faith. What
are they? Where can they be found? How can we move them into the
center of our hearts and use them to anchor our lives? And what do
they say about us as members of humanity, the world around us, and
our God? These are the questions we all have been asking and should
ask as we continue on our faith journey. While they aren't easy to
discover on our own, praise God that our Lord has not kept these
things hidden, but revealed them to us through His Son, Jesus
Christ. May this month be full of clues to knowing Him more fully!
PS: Sherlock
Holmes actually never used the phrase in any of Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle's books! But if you're curious to see where the phrase first
shows up in film, CLICK HERE:

Thank You
From The Hudson Family!
|
To every
member of our Christian family at Eastminster Presbyterian Church:
how can we ever hope to adequately thank you for all you have done for
us over the past nine months? And how is it that we have been so
blessed by being part of such a kind, compassionate and generous
congregation? You have supported us with prayer in times of joy and
trial, provided us with meals to comfort and nourish, and supplied
our twin daughters with everything they could ever need upon their
arrival into our home and hearts. To everyone who has modeled the
grace and love of Jesus Christ to us, thank you! And as I've
mentioned before, we remain honored and overwhelmed by how you
lifted Katie and our daughters up in prayer on their
delivery day. Thank you!

after an event, a Building Use Request form is required before that
event is placed on the church calendar. This is for all events
including church events. Forms are available from Linda in the
