EASTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

At Eastminster, our mission is to introduce people to a relationship with Jesus Christ.  We hope the relationship continues, and that the church becomes a community of faith for you to grow.  We look at it this way:  we hope community members will become participants, participants will become worshippers, worshippers will become disciples, and disciples will become leaders.  In fact, we have organized our programs to help you grow in just this pattern.  At some point along the way, you may feel it is time to declare your formal membership of Eastminster Presbyterian Church.

Membership is not necessary to be a participant or a worshipper, or even a disciple.  Even some leadership positions are open to non-members, but you must be a member to vote in congregational meetings or to become an elder or deacon.

Becoming a member of this church is not similar to a club membership or participation in an HOA.  We ask that potential members genuinely pray and ask themselves if they are ready to contribute to the mission of this church as obedient followers of Jesus Christ.  A member will be expected to attend worship regularly, find a small group or Bible Study, jump in on the occasional mission trip or service project, and give regularly of his or her finances to resource the mission of this church.  No amount is required, but we consider the tithe (a tenth of income) to be a Biblical guide for member’s giving.

A potential member should ask if they are ready to pick up an oar and help to paddle this boat, not just float along!  Membership is not required to participate in any of our activities and classes, so please think carefully and pray about whether or not it is the right next step for you.

So it’s time to join?

Members join in two ways:  profession of faith or transfer of letter.  Profession of faith means that this is the first time you are joining a church, or the church you have been a part of in the past does not send letters to transfer members.  Transfer of letter means you are currently a member of a Christian Church (of any type which recognizes the Trinity) and wish to change your membership to Eastminster.

If you have never been baptized, the pastor will talk with you about getting baptized when you join.  These are beautiful moments to celebrate together!

Starting Points Class: Eastminster’s Pastoral Staff leads a class designed to acquaint potential members with the ministries of Eastminster, to explore the history and roots of the Presbyterian Church, and to help you discern if membership fits for you and your family.  If you have been visiting Eastminster and feel led to join with us as a Covenant Partner, then this class is for you!
