Building Permits Granted
Cobb County has granted the land disturbance permit and preliminary building permit. On March 2, a construction contract was signed with Custom Design Builders; it calls for work to begin in 10 business days. So expect to see some clearing and grading activity to start within the next 2 weeks. The overall schedule for completion of the building is approximately 8 months which puts us around late November for occupying the new facility.

Ground Breaking Ceremony and Luncheon
The Building Design Team joined with the fellowship Team for the ground breaking ceremony today, January 21st celebrating our campus expansion. The planning and design effort are complete and now the real fun begins. Construction is expected to take 10 to 12 months, so there will be a few logistic challenges along the way, but our current facilities will remain fully operational during construction. With God's guidance and our prayers, we embark on a journey that will shape Eastminster's future. The Holy Spirit is at work. Can you feel it?
A covered dish lunch was served immediately following the ground breaking ceremony in the fellowship hall. The church provided ham, fried chicken, rolls and dessert. The congregation provided vegetable dishes and salads. |

A contract has been signed for architectural and engineering design services with Saunders and Riddle, a local design/build firm who has worked on numerous church facilities around Atlanta including two within our Presbytery at Heritage and Macland Presbyterian. The Building Design Team presented preliminary floor plans at the September Session meeting and these drawings are on display on easels by the church office. After another round of meetings and comments from our Youth leaders, Worship leaders, kitchen staff and other congregational members, we have released Saunders and Riddle to proceed with developing construction drawings. In a few weeks the team will go before Session for approval of the facility layout. A full set of construction drawings should be ready in 2 to 4 weeks after Session approval to submit for a building permit with Cobb County. At the same time, we will receive a price from Saunders and Riddle to construct the building. The team will review this price and make a recommendation to Session for final approval and to start construction.

Our new Building Design Team begins work with architect David Strickland. David's firm CDH Partners, is the architectural firm that built designed our present facilities. CDH Partners were chosen by Session following interviews with several firms because of their familiarity with Eastminster, their abilities to work with county officials, and their outstanding record of designing churches of all sizes.
After David and Building Design Team do their initial work, they will be asking for the congregation's input as part of the progress. The congregation's thoughts will be very important as we go through the needs assesment which is vital to the Master Planning for Eastminster's future needs. Following the needs assessment, and listening to the congregation, the Session will make final decisions that will chart our course into the future.
This is an exciting time for Eastminster and the Building Team and the Session, count on your prayers throughout the process. |
