Thank You . . .

Stan and I are so blessed to be a part of such a loving church family. I am recovering well with God's healing hand to help Stan and our daughter, Rebecca with daily needs. Looking forward to getting back to normal, coming to Church, and doing tours at Bulloch Hall.

Thank you and Blessings to you all.

Stan and Flo Sharp

Dear Eastminster Church Family,

Jennie and I cannot find the words to express our gratitude for all the caring phone calls, with the very gracious cards, condolences and most importantly the constant prayers. We felt the presence of the Lord surrounding us in this difficult time of my Mom's illness and joining the  saints in heaven. Praise the Lord for calling us to a loving church 36 years ago.

God bless each and everyone,

Jennie and Mike Adams

Sympathy is expressed to . . .

Greg and Jessica Gibbs and family in the loss of Greg's mother, Margaret Gibbs.

Thank You Teachers

The staff and congregation would like to express their deepest thanks to all of our teachers! Whether you teach children, students, or adults, we want you to know how deeply we appreciate your preparation, presence, and prayers for everyone seeking to grow in their faith! You help us by teaching about what it means to follow Jesus Christ and become the kind of people that reflect His Spirit in our daily lives. Thank you!

Summer Adult CLT Classes ... Join us beginning June 4!

The Forgotten God by Francis Chan will be led by Valerie Mote. CLC Room 204

In this dynamic companion to the book Forgotten God, author Francis Chan reminds us of the true source of the church's power-the Holy Spirit. Chan contends that we've ignored the Spirit for far too long, and that without Him, we operate in our own strength, only accomplishing human-sized results. This class offers a compelling invitation to understand, embrace, and follow the Holy Spirit's direction in our lives. It is designed to initiate and facilitate discussion, interaction and practical application of the message of Forgotten God.

The Good Book by Kyle Idleman will be led by Carolyn Waters. CLC Room 209

The Bible is a big book. Hundreds of characters and thousands of ideas parade across its pages from beginning to end. From the uninitiated to the very seasoned, readers of the Bible will always find something new to learn in The Good Book. Over the course of 8 sessions we will visit the most salient themes about God in the Bible. With the goal of providing a sketch of each idea, each session will break down the concept into two smaller sections to unpack the meat behind the theme. At the center of the series stands God, and each theme will focus on who He is in relationship to His created order.

Music Ministry

Spring Worship Recap:

What an excellent Spring we had! Holy Week was a fantastic time of passionate praise and worship in both our traditional and contemporary worship settings. It was a joy to work with all of the musicians and worship volunteers. Please take the time to thank Vicky Ryder and Janie Bunch, our worship elders, as well as the rest of the team for all of their hard work and dedication through Holy Week and Easter Sunday. What an amazing team we have!

KidChoir presented That Plane 'Ole Mission Field, a musical centered around the great commission, in the CLC on Wednesday, May 3. Cindy Holland worked with her team to put on a fantastic dinner that helped bring in a lot of folks (150+) for the presentation.

June and July represent a season of rest for the Praise Team, Chancel Choir, and other music groups. Of course, wečll continue to praise the Lord passionately on Sunday mornings, but our weekly gatherings are more centered on spiritual renewal, allowing folks to rest and gear up for Fall and Christmas! But we look to these seasons joyfully, knowing that Lord will do great things!!

Interested in Joining Choir or the Praise Team?

Shoot me a line (chris.owenby@epres.org) because Summer is a great time to get acquainted with the music and worship ministry. I look forward to hearing from you!

Songs and Hymn Requests Through June and July

The music and worship team is now soliciting for song and hymn requests. We want to feature your favorites in worship during the months of June and July. You may e-mail your top three selections to chrisowenby@epres.org. We can't promise to program every selection, but we will do our very best to accommodate your requests.

MUST Summer Lunch Program

The MUST Summer Lunch Program has been sponsored by MUST Ministries since 1995. During the summer months children who are eligible to receive a free or reduced lunch during the school year are also given the opportunity to have a free lunch delivered to them by way of volunteers. Monday through Friday a child receives a sack lunch and sometimes this is their only meal of the day.  MUST Ministries is proud to have delivered over 300,000 lunches last summer to children in need.  7,500 children are served each day and they have served over 214 MILLION lunches since 1995!

Eastminster's MUST Summer Lunch Program will meet on Tuesday mornings June 6 and 13. Volunteers will make 500 lunches each day for a total of 1,500 lunches. We will meet in the kitchen of the CLC at 9:15am. It only takes about an hour of your time and is a lot of fun!  We can also use help when we are shopping at Costco and delivering the lunches. Teenagers - we can sign off on service hours if you need them.  If you would like to help all summer there are opportunities for you at MUST as lunch bag checkers or drivers. Call us to find out the details! Questions? Contact Karen Miller at 678-522-5267 or karenmiller0@gmail.com or Cindy Moran at whmracer99@aol.com or 770-509-7565.

Eagle Scout Project

Sam Hunnicutt is a member of Eastminster's Boy Scout Troop 565.  He has planned an Eagle Scout project, which will be to refurbish the walkway between the 2 breezeways, in between the main building and the CLC  Currently the walkway has settled, resulting in standing water when it rains. The new path will be made two pavers wider so that a wheelchair or walker will fit or two people can walk together.  It will be supported by wooden braces to prevent future settling.  In addition, he will install a little "bump out" along the walkway, with seating for contemplation or conversations.  This project will be done the first weekend in June.  If you would like to donate to this project, it would be much appreciated.  Please, make your check out to EPC and write Sam Hunnicutt's Eagle Scout Project in the memo section. Thanks again for your continued support of Troop 565.

Session Meeting Highlights

May 2017

Session welcomed the following brothers and sisters in Christ into the covenant partnership of Eastminster: David & Leslie Geiger, Tony & Margaret Nunez, and Leslie & Cindy Saunders.

Session created a task force to determine the need and options available for creating and maintaining the church directory. Any member interested in participating should contact Janie Bunch at thebunches@bellsouth.net.

Session approved the Eagle Scout project for Scott Hunnicutt to refurbish the walkway between the two breezeways between the main building and the CLC.  The new path will be made two bricks wider and will be supported by wooden braces to prevent future settling.  He will also install a "bump out" along the walkway with seating for contemplation or conversations.  He will raise funds via a notice in the bulletin.  The total cost should be below $1,000.  The project will be done the first weekend in June.

Two summer interns, Lee Heiner and Michelle Watson, will begin on June 1.

Session approved a motion to cancel CLT training for all ages on July 2 and July 30, 2017, and replace it with an expanded breakfast fellowship time.

Additional volunteers are still needed for CLT classes in the summer and for VBS. Contact Katie Hudson if interested.

Session approved a motion to endorse Covenant Partner Keith Reid as he enters the ordination process with ECO, and that a small team of elders (Valerie Mote and Steve Hartt) will walk with him through this process, according to the ECO guidelines of preparation for ministry.

The next Stated Session meeting will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 7:30pm in Room 204.

Respectfully submitted,

Diane L. Brock

Clerk of Session
